whats going on here?
Here is what the name is about. (click)
A BIT OF BACKGROUND
My name is Maayan, I make a lot of desserts and take pleasure in baking for people. When I was a kid in Jerusalem, my mom gave me a Hebrew cookbook about making birthday cakes. It was pretty much the kind of activity book you might have received at an after-school community course, but to me this was a bible.
The photos were terribly amateur, the recipes based on store-bought packages, and the ideas archaic (though with this magic combination… genius.)
Years passed, and since the book never ignited a passion in me to become any sort of professional in the way of gastronomy, I went on to college in New York City and a career followed in art, and later in fashion.
(You may already be familiar with my lingerie and swimwear line The Lake & Stars.)
Because every working woman needs a break, I started baking for friends every now and then as a release from the constant struggle to make things that are “hot”. With baking, if it’s “hot” it’s just hot, and it needs to cool down before you eat it.
WHY DON’T YOUR DESSERTS LOOK LIKE MAGNOLIA? OR LIKE THE CAKES WE SEE ON THE FOOD NETWORK?
Much like the idea behind The Lake & Stars, WaveCake is a new brand that doesn’t follow the typical rules of cake-making. I wanted to offer people a new sort of dessert that isn’t frilly or derivative or nostalgiac…that has a sense of humor… but doesnt look like a toy.
I like desserts to look like fun, not like serene shells you have to crack open to find something you may or may not want to eat. These desserts are not about perfection and precision, they should bring a smile to your face when you see them and when you eat them!
This was my favorite book (mentioned above):

My favorite cake in the book (“Robot”)…. please note the variation in color is not due to the scan, it is in fact how the page is printed. Crop marks and all.
